Time for winter tyres

16/11/2015

Winter will soon be here, so don’t put your safety in the hands of the weather!

Time for winter tyres

In wet weather, but also in low temperatures (7° and lower), winter tyres provide better grip than summer tyres. Temperature severely affects the grip of the tread layer rubber.

LeasePlan plans ahead: your winter tyres have already been reserved

Every year, at the first sign of cold weather, tyre fitters are so badly besieged by drivers looking for winter tyres for their vehicles that they experience capacity and supply problems.
We are committed to making our drivers’ lives easier than ever: we have therefore decided to plan for the risk of a tyre shortage and have pre-ordered your winter tyres at our approved, preferred tyre fitters. We have no doubt that our proactivity will save you time and help you avoid difficulties. It's easier to leaseplan!

What do you still need to do?

If you already have your vehicle, all you need to do is book an appointment* with the tyre fitter who is holding your winter tyres. The fitter may also contact you to update its schedule and set a date for your appointment. You can contact them any time from now onwards, even if you only want your winter tyres fitted later in the season.

We recommend that you use “Preferred Dealer Contact”, our online reservation tool, to make your online appointment with our preferred suppliers. They have signed up to a detailed quality charter under which they are committed to offering you their best possible service. Depending on availability, you may also be offered a free pick-up service.

If your vehicle is currently on order and its delivery is scheduled between 1 October and 15 March, it will be delivered with winter tyres already fitted. The summer tyres will be stored by the fitter who fits your winter tyres.

WINTER TYRES: FACTS & FIGURES

  • Much more than a snow tyre, the winter tyre has been developed for driving in all weather conditions, from autumn onwards. In wet weather, but also in low temperatures, winter tyres provide better grip than summer tyres. Temperature severely affects the grip of the tread layer rubber.
  • Driving at 90 km/h on wet surfaces and in temperatures lower than 7°, your braking distance is between 6m and 8m shorter than it would be with summer tyres.
  • The braking distance of winter tyres on snow-covered surfaces is half that of summer tyres. At 50 km/h, winter tyres have a braking distance of 23.3m, compared to 46.6m for summer tyres.
