TÜV Rheinland certifies GreenPlan

09 February 2009

TÜV Rheinland has officially certified LeasePlan’s GreenPlan initiative. LeasePlan is the first international fleet and vehicle management company to obtain this important certification for its sustainability initiative. GreenPlan was globally introduced in 2007 and supports LeasePlan’s clients in their environmental engagement to reduce CO2 emissions from their car fleet.

Vahid Daemi, LeasePlan’s Chief Executive Officer: “GreenPlan has been positively received by our clients. With the increasing awareness of environmental issues, company car drivers tend to change their behaviour in the way they select their car and in the way they drive. With GreenPlan we provide advice and practical tools to facilitate both drivers and fleet managers in acting upon the social responsibility we all have.”

Consolidated CO2 monitoring and reduction

LeasePlan recognises global warming as a universal issue. The global initiative GreenPlan aims at structurally reducing CO2 emissions through strategic car policy measures. It includes tools like FleetReporting, LeasePlan’s online reporting tool that measures, monitors and tracks CO2 emissions of the individual vehicles in a company fleet. In addition, the consistent approach enables fleet-wide consolidation on a local and global scale.  This makes GreenPlan an ideal solution for companies with an (inter)national sustainability approach.

TÜV Rheinland’s mission and guiding principle is to achieve sustained development of safety and quality in order to meet the challenges arising from the interaction between man, technology and the environment.

Based on national and international accreditation, TÜV Rheinland offers independent third party inspection in all Business Streams: Industrial Services, Mobility, Products, Life Care, Education/Consulting and Systems. With respect to global warming TÜV Rheinland offers e.g. the validation/verification of the project based mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol, the verification of annual CO2 emission reports of installations covered by the European Emission Trading Scheme (EU-ETS) and the certification of carbon footprints.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günter Schock of the TÜV Competence Center Climate Change: “TÜV Rheinland has assessed LeasePlan’s GreenPlan initiative and certified it based on its completeness, consistency, transparency, accuracy, materiality and faithfulness. Country specific results will be continuously monitored by LeasePlan and verified by TÜV Rheinland.”
