Choosing your options
As explained above, it is essential to give careful consideration to the choice of equipment, finishes and accessories comprised in your future vehicle. The following options are regarded as the most “lucrative”, in the sense that they generate an increase in value over and above the residual value, and are thus the most important:
- metallic paint
- air conditioning
- particle filter (a condition of eligibility for the ecological premium)
- radio
Moreover, the value of that equipment must be proportional to the size of the car. Thus you should as far as possible arrange for your vehicle to be fitted with the following options:
- leather interior
- navigation system
- xenon headlights
- parking sensors
Certain options enhance the value of a car quite significantly. For example, the size of the tyres chosen is an important factor: we advise you to choose tyres of a reasonable size, since the larger the tyre, the quicker it wears out and the more this will need to be taken into account in the contract, which will increase the amount of the rental payments.
It is sometimes a very good idea to consider the price and content of option packs, since they may be significantly more valuable, in terms of price, than the individual options which they comprise.
Beware: if the vehicle model is reaching the end of its life, the options offered by the manufacturer will often be insufficient to compensate for the fall in the residual value.
Bear in mind the vagaries of fashion: for example, choosing white as the (currently highly fashionable) colour of your car could give rise to a diminution in the residual value (save in the case of utility vehicles).
